Local Amenities... There’s a good village shop and post office in Litton, owned and run by the community, well stocked with groceries and local produce. If you’re walking locally, stop here for tea or coffee, legendary homemade cake, maps, walking guides and inside knowledge.

Tideswell has a Co-op supermarket open late, three bakers/delicatessen, butcher, greengrocer, chemist, newsagents, farm shop, fish and chip shop, rock shop (mineral, not confectionery!), stained glass gallery, huge secondhand bookshop, highly recommended coffeeshop, several good pubs, and is dominated by the handsome medieval church known as the Cathedral of the Peak.

Bakewell and Buxton are the local market towns with everything from supermarket to farmers’ markets, as well as museums, theatre, restaurants, coffeeshops and swimming pools.

Within walking distance, good pubs to eat at include the Red Lion in Litton, the Angler’s Rest at Miller’s Dale, the Monsal Head Hotel and the George in Tideswell.
